The Great Cichlid Dilemma

Recently I lost many fish to Ich and so I removed my only survivor, a 6 inch peacock eel, and placed him in a quarantine tank for a while. I did a 50% water change, got a new filter, and scrubbed everything top to bottom. It's been cycling for 4 weeks now and I had hopes of starting up a cichlid tank, however, I'm nervous to put them in with my peacock eel seeing as cichlids have a tendency to be aggressive. The tank is 38g and I'd love suggestions about whether or not these fish could work well together, or what other fish to place into the tank.

It depends on species. Angelfish, keyhole cichlids, or possibly Kirbs would be a good option.
