Hello!
I Have an Infestation of SNAILS! OH NO!, i got some plants, i checked them very very well to ensure there were no snails on theme, apparently i missed one because now i have snails : (, right now i have platys in my 29 gallon tank, what can i do to get rid of the snails, ive been taking them out as i see them but they keep appearing, also they are dark, and my substrate is black, so im sure im not getting all of them just removing them with a net, suggestions? perhaps 1 clown loach or 2 dwarf gouramis?

Hello Blaze...

You've likely got some Ramshorn snails. If you do, these are a good kind to have and some will contribute to the general health of your tank. So, you have too many. You're likely feeding your fish and plants too much. Snails and algae will take advantage of extra dissolved food in the tank water.

Gradually reduce the amount you feed. Fish are small and don't need to eat more than a couple of times a week. In nature, they'll eat once a week, maybe. So, unless you have fry in the tank, just feed a variety and just a little. The snail reproduction will slow if there's no food.

You can drop a piece of iceberg lettuce into the tank. The snails will latch onto it and you can toss the lettuce after a day or so.

Keep the tank water pure with large, frequent water changes. The water change will remove extra nutrients from the tank and remove the food the snails are using.

Try these and give them time to reduce your snail population.

10-4 Thank you! i will goto feeding them like every other day instead of 1 small meal, once per day, and i dont know what kind of snails they are lol but they are black and they are not bothering anything but im afraid they may create to great of a bio load and i will have a die off. but ill use some lettuce and ill reduce the fish food, im doing a 20% water change every other day as my tank seems to be cycled(several days of 0's) however everyone tells me i cant be cycled yet so im still changing the water anyway
