What is this?

Hi, I found this in my tank a couple days ago but didn't think too much of it. But I am curious: what is this?

Also there are tiny whITE worms floating around in the tank sometimes. Are they related somehow?

No idea. I have read that woods will often sprout mysterious stuff when submerged. But it usually goes away after a while.
