If the shrimp are dying in the new tank, there is something wrong with the water in that tank. Do a big water change.

I did the big water change. The closer I got to the sand the more it smelt. I end up taking the aquarium apart. One of my plants roots went bad.

With the 29 gallon aquarium. I took my sick shrimp out of the 5 gallon. I helped them get healthy. Nothing has happened in the 5 gallon aquarium since. I did do a major water change.

Should I do more water changes or just keep a eye on it?

You should do a partial water change and gravel clean the substrate once a week if everything is ok.

You should do a partial water change and gravel clean any day you have an ammonia or nitrite reading above 0ppm, or a nitrate reading above 20ppm. Or if the water smells bad or the fish, shrimp, etc, aren't acting right.
