i need your help! my coral beauty is having a hard time keeping his balance and it seems like the problem might be his swim/gas bladder. looking at him, it seems like he is dragging his tail while his swimming pattern is similar to that of my ocellaris clowns'. it's been three days now since this occured and i don't see any improvement, though he is still feeding. i was wondering if the prolonged[10 mins] fresh water bath with strong methylene blue solution i gave him prior to putting him in the tank caused this? there was no visible external parasitic infection while he was in quarantine for two weeks and until now. what's wrong with him? i'm afraid that the stress might kill him.

hoping for your quick response!

If he is still feeding that is a good sign. I have never had a fish with a swim bladder infection but that does seem to be the case. Do you have a QT tank? If so I would move him over to it and start a treatment. I don't know which medication to use for it as I am no specialist on meds. I do not recommend giving your fish anymore fresh water dips, this is only to aid in the removal of external parasites and it's actually pretty stressful for the fish as well. Reducing stress on a fish while he is sick is a huge plus in having a good recovery. Sorry I don't have the name of the meds off hand byt go see your LFS and I am sure they have some meds there that could help you out. Remember DO NOT over medicate... I hope this helps if not someone else could procide you with some input.

thanks for the help! unfortunately, he died this morning  i guess the stress was too much for him and the move to the QT was no better at that point.

Sorry about the fish, that is sad..

May I recommend that you stay away from the freshwater bath especially treating with methylene blue. I would only do this when extreme measures are needed.

Let the fish stay in QT for a few weeks and monitor for any outbreaks of parasites or disease. Then and only then medicate.

yup, he was a great loss! here in manila, it is rare to find a healthy coral beauty, much less a feeding one.

i guess i was just so paranoid about the possibility of another disease outbreak after suffering two wipe-outs from velvet and ick. i'd almost take every conceivable measure to make sure it never happens again. oh well, i guess here's another experience to learn from...

thanks again!
