Its a sad day in my fish tank I lost my first creature my blue star

Here is a picture of him in his happier times.

On a plus side I now know what was causing the algae spike over the past few days

Tank was probably a bit immature to house a star. That may have been contributory to your loss. Unless he was in there dead for quite awhile I
seriously doubt that caused your algae.

IMO

Sorry for your loss. I have to agree with "cememtshoes" as to the tank being on the immature side for a starfish like a Linckia.

I had not seen him in about a week and a half and when I took him out he was quite decomposed probably half the size and all of his blue skin was already gone.

Tank is over 7 months old.

What is considered not a to young tank?

Either way I am done with those stars for a while.

I dont know how you acclimated him but you cant expose them to air. That`s what live aquaria says. They say "The Blue Linckia Sea Star should never be exposed to air while handling. " How did you acclimate it?

i dripped him and dunked the drip in the tank,

He lived for a month and a half got him around JUne 8th.
