I just got a good deal on this brain coral with some zoanthids on one side. The brain is dying on the side the zoanthids are on. My lfs said I have to cut off the dead skeleton off or it will slowly die is that true or can I just cut the zoanthids off. Won't the brain just encrust over the old skeleton?

The brain can encrust over old skeleton, but recovery can only occur if things are pristine and stable.
I agree with what your LFS said, cut off the zoas as they are most likely the cause for the tissue recession to begin with.

I was going to cut the zoas off. Can I leave the old skeleton with the brain or should I cut that off?
