I have a mated pair of maroon clowns. About a week ago the female (the larger of the two) began digging in the substrate (she actually sweeps the sand with her tail). She has moved a large part of the reef bed and constantly clouds the water, a major annoyance. I assume that she is preparing to lay eggs, but because this has gone on so long, Iamb not sure. How often does a clown lay eggs and how long does this process usually take? Will she stop digging? Advice appreciated. DJJ

actually, that is typical clownfish behaviour...mine has done it for a couple of years now. Very annoying habit.

I want to say that they would lay there eggs on some LR before on the sand bed. They try and lay them in a hidden area not in the open.
My Percs do this once in a while and when the hole is big my Ember blenny lays in it and ticks off the clowns..
