New Tank Begining Cycle Process

I have just set up a new 65 gallon tank. Live sand was used and I added 10 pounds of live base rock yesterday. Is is OK to add a fish or two or a crab or something to look at while the cycle process starts?

I wouldn;t you'll stress them out... though as impatient as I am.. most members will tell you to just wait until you cycle pretty much ends, then put fish in..

In this hobby you must learn to be patiant. I learned the hard way and waisted lots of money. Try your best to hold out on the fish untill everything is just right. And untill your aquarium is done cycleing.

First off... Welcome to AquariumAdvice.com

In order for the tank to even begin the cycle you will need to add an ammonia source. As stated above, the use of fish is an outdated practice and one that is IMO, cruel. I would instead suggest using either uncured LR or raw shrimp. Which ever method you choose, either of these topics in the arcticles section should help...

How to cycle your tank with out the use of fish.
or
Curing Live Rock? I didn't even know it was sick!!

Cheers
Steve
