quarintine question

i have to quarintine a fish that has ich and i went and bought a small air powered filter for my quarintine tank and placed it inside my main filter to allow the bacteria to form on the new filter. my question is how long do i haev to leave it there for enough bacteria to form on it before it will be strong enough to maintain my 10 gallon quarintine tank and i can put the sick fish in it? i have heard a week but hope this is not necessary seeing as how i need to get the fish out of the main tank asap.

If you need to move the fish asap...I would go ahead and move it and use amquel + to keep the ammonia and nitrite at bay.
