Strange behavior from purple firefish

I've had a purple firefish for about 4 months now. It has always done fine, always out while lights are on, hiding when the lights go out. Today, it hid under some rocks until about 2:00, 6 hours after the lights come on. I could see it through some rocks just resting underneath a rock, not moving at all. I thought it might be dead He seems fine since he came out.

Do they sometimes behave this way or is mine feeling ill? My wife thought it might be laying eggs or something like that.

Nope. That's what's strange. My royal gramma sometimes gets cranky so maybe they had an altercation this morning.
