Betta fish - turning brown?

Hi there! So I'm one of those people who got a fish without researching. I feel so terrible about it. I'm so lost about what to do.

I bought my little guy, kirk, from the pet store. He has a 10 gallon tank with some fake plants. I didn't cycle it first (I didn't even know that was a thing).

But I've had him for about a month now, and he started off bright blue but is now turning brown on his body.

Any idea what I should do? Thanks!

Post your tank parameters and a picture of fish. Some young bettas do change color as they age. But need to see your parameters. Preferably with liquid kit.
