Black patches?

I have six serpae tetras (among other fish) and one of them has developed black patches on his body. Basically, it looks like he's dirty. I've been trying to research to see if it's a disease and can't find anything. The only thing I found is "black spot", but it said "small black specs" and these are more like large discolorations. Is something wrong with him? He's acting fine, eating, and it's only on one fish...

TIA!

According to what I found on this website, #9, darkening can be a sign of ammonia or nitrite poisioning. http://www.ehow.com/how_5801_diagnos...s-ailment.html. Not sure how accurate. What are your water parameters? How long has your tank been set up? HTH

The tank is a couple months old, but fully cycled. Readings for ammonia and nitrite have been at 0 for well over a month on each reading. So strange, I can't find anything either.

I found another article for you, don't know how much it is like what your fish is suffering from though, it does say small black spots and I don't think that is what you are talking about. http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/com...a/aa041701.htm
