Bloated Cory catfish

My Cory cat has been unwell for several weeks. It started with a shredded dorsal fin, which appears almost healed. He is now very bloated and has been twitchy. I am sure that he is on his way out and I accept it, but am feeling sad as I ‘ve had him for almost two years. If he is not gone or less bloated I will euthanize.

He seems better. Is it possible that he’s just fat?

Have you tried fasting him for a few days?

To fast him I’d have to fast every one, would they be ok?

Yes. Actually, you should fast your fish once a week.

Well haven’t fasted my Cory cat, but he appears less bloated and is behaving like a happy catfish, so I don’t know what was bothering him. I did switch filters, so maybe a reaction to that.

IME, over time, you will deal with constipation. Either from overfeeding or not feeding a varied diet. Cory cats are omnivores and should have feed consistent with that. A lot of fish keepers will fast their fish for one day out of the week...skip one feeding day..... for digestive health.

I'm glad to hear the bloating went down. Catfish have a tendency to eat like pigs if given the chance.
