Hello Everyone,

One of our discus has developed what looks like cysts growing on one of our her pectoral fins. Hoping someone can help identify the problem and how to treat it.

No other fish in the tank show any signs of the same problem.

Ammonia and nitrites are zero.
Nitrates peaked at 40ppm before most recent water change.
pH is about 7.6.
Temp is 84 F.

The tank is 105g and was set up 3 years ago.

There are 8 discus total in the tank, each about 5-6" long. Running two Eheim 2217's.

Generally we do a 50% water change once per week and vacuum daily.

We've had these fish for 3 years, and no new fish have been added to the tank for quite some time. No changes have been made recently except that we stopped injecting CO2 when our bubble counter broke about a month ago, at which point we started adding Flourish Excel.

We generally feed the fish beef heart and bloodworms.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I got my quarantine tank out of storage and plan to do exactly that. Thanks for the reply!

Agree.

If nothing new has been added maybe he got spooked and had an injury? That's only think I can really think of.

The fin deterioration says bacterial infection to me?

The white lumps are either lymphocystis or arenoma type infection.

The arenoma is usually accompanied by poor water quality ,so if this is not the case go right to bacterial or viral.

It is the same issue with the dot on his head.

Viral issues can't be cured(common cold).

In some fish lymphocystis is the iridovirus that is their particular weakness.

Search iridovirus for many examples.
