Fin rot?

Hey all,

I got these guys (swordtails ) maybe a week ago and their tails are turning white and falling off. My guess is fun rot but ive never had this issue before. Would you agree? What's the best treatment?

The tank of fully cycled (up since nov) Ph 7.5

I have catfish in the originaltank, should I treat it or wait and see?

Can be hard without knowing store conditions but seems to be getting worse? In that case I would treat. Most meds will say if half dosing for catfish I believe.


My experience is roughly pimafix or melafix for light infections. Other fish may have issues. Do not over-dose and mix into jar of tank water before dosing tank.


The dyes (eg malachite green) / non-antibiotics for medium infections / initial treatment. Other fish may have issues. Start with half dose.


Antibiotics for heavy infections / least likely to kill other fish.


Check water chemistry and maintain good water conditions as this is half the battle imo.
