Fin rot or other damage?

Hi! I was just wondering how I can tell the difference between fin rot and general fin damage from nipping or tearing on decorations. I have a red male delta tail betta and his fins are pretty tattered. They dont look discolored or anything so I'm wondering if its just general wear and tear? He's had them this way for a while and they dont seem to be getting worse but it makes me sad that his fins are not what they used to be and I want to make sure he is not sick!

Looks like wear and tear for now but if water isn't pristine it can quickly turn into fin rot. It looks like you have some spiky plastic plants in his tank which will tear his fins really easily. Silk plants would be a much better option for him.

Personally I would add a little aquarium salt to his tank to try and prevent any fin rot while his fins heal
