Hi guys! I am not sure whether to use aquarium salt of something stronger for my betta’s fin rot. (He has also gotten nipped pretty bad by my white skirt tetras) What do you think? (Also can I use Trader Joe’s salt as an alternative for aquarium salt?)

I would say that you shouldn't replace aq salt for anything else. It works for aquariums, and anything else might have additives that are dangerous to fish.

What size is the tank? Having a lightly filtered, and heated tank with weekly water changes is the best way to heal it. Fin rot is from poor water conditions, so fixing what caused it is the first step. I wouldn’t use salt.

Tank size, tankmates and water parameters?

If he’s still with white skirts they will probably keep injuring him. They’re terrible betta tankmates.

I’d also move him to his own tank, getting nipped will stress him and and possibly kill him from the stress. You can put him in his own heated and filtered 3 gallon, they’re not that expensive at Walmart and do weekly water changes.
