Your Livebearer

I woke up this morning and my platy is very ill. She is laying on the bottom breathing heavily, and swimming like a maniac when she is up!!! All the other fish are ok, so what do i do?

Hello Fib...

I keep tanks of Livebearers and change half the tank water at least every two weeks. Sometimes, more often, if time permits. I add a rounded teaspoon of standard aquarium salt to every 5 gallons of the new treated, tap water and make new water a bit warmer. 80 degrees is about right for the new water and keep the tank temp at 76-78 degrees. Feed mostly frozen and freeze dried foods. Most times, a little salt, warm water and nourishing food will help.
