Hello! My tanks ph, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and all that are where they should be but lately there’s this white film on the surface of my tank with 100000 tiny micro bubbles. Also my orange goldfish has produced white marks on his head just today! They seem to be larger marks than ich would be and only on the top of his head. The other fish seem fine... there are 3 goldfish in a 40 gallon tank.

I added ich treatment a couple days ago since I thought they had white spots. No new equipment and no new fish

Medications can cause a protein skim like that. As can decaying matter. Any missing fish or dying plants? You can physically remove most of the skim (just use a little cup) and then add a bubbler/ more water movement to break it up.

I’m not sure about the white marks, but could it just be a physical injury healing?

Thanks for the reply! And okay I’ll remove the skim and maybe do a 25% water change? My filter makes a lot of bubbles and water movement but I wouldn’t be against getting a bubbler.

Usually protein skim is a sign of something going wrong in the water (over feeding, dead fish, rotting plant) but since you have medicated it could just me the meds. An air stone isn’t necessarily most of the time but it can help during medication because many meds decrease oxygen in the water and some cause these skims.

That’s what I would do. Physically remove the skim, 25-50% water change and add an air stone or lower the water level slightly so the filter splashes more. If it already splashes quite a bit that may be enough even without an air stone.
