:( I have a tank with 5 neon tetra in plus various other fish. Three weeks ago one of the tetras suddenly ballooned in size. It still seems to be active but it is huge. I have put it into a small net tank within the main tank. A friend with a little knowledge suggested it may be pregnant, or it could be constipated. I am concerned as to what to do. If it is pregnant how long is the gestation period and what should i put in the net to encourage it to lay, if constipated will bloodworm help relieve the problems.

Any advice to a beginner is appreciated

Peas are popular for their laxative effects. Microwave until warm, then remove the shell and squish the inside bits. If she is eggbound, a small dip in temperature can encourage them to spawn, but she would need to be with the other tetras. Another possibility is dropsy, but it is hard to diagnose in scaleless fish. Any chance of a pic?
