My Otto struggling to breathe

I came home today and my otto was laying at the bottom of the 2gallon tank upside down breathing fast and hard. I thought he may have been poisoned some how or the ammonia was through the roof so I quickly made a gallon of water put the conditioner in and put him in the water. He is swimming a little but he remaines upside down and breathing hard and fast
I was in the process of treating him for ich. will he be ok? what's wrong with him?

Water parameters? Do a 50% water change ASAP and put him back in when your done.

Its to late I did a 100% water change and he still died

Sorry to hear that. I had no luck with eithe of our Oto's but our Corydoras are doing great
