New agassizi dwarf cichlid

I got a double red agassizi dwarf cichlid yesterday he is shy and cautious but he is warming up is this normal?

I've never had cichlids but when I add a new gourami they are shy for the first few days to, I think the fish is fine probably just needs to adjust, are they enough hiding places in the tank?
