We are new to fish keeping. My husband and sons bought 2 new fish yesterday and added them to the tank. I noticed the Platy nipping at the pleco so I watched closer and noticed little granules on him. The platy was eating them off him. Is this a parasite or just normal anatomy? See answers to questions below.

1). BN albino pleco little yellow granules on fins and body

2). 0.5 ammonia
0 nitrite
20 nitrate
Temp 76
Ph 7

3) 10 gallon tank set up 1 month ago

4) the marina slim filter s15

5) 4 fish 1 platy 1 inch. 1 guppie 1 inch 1 Cory 3/4 inch Albino BN pleco 1 1-4 inch

6) water change yesterday. Do it weekly 20 percent
Yesterday did 30 percent

7) platy and guppie have had for one month bought pleco and Cory yesterday. Acclimated then for 45 minutes in their bag in aquarium then scooped them out and placed in tank.

8) added small cave yesterday added driftwood 2 weeks ago seemed to cause algae and green tinged water. Took it out a few days ago.

9) feed platy and guppie nitration mix flakes. Have to go back today to get food for the Corey and guppy since pet store did not tell us what food to give them.

First pic attached shows the little round yellow balls well.

Hello, this is normal. All albinos have this texture of skin. Hope this helps!!!!! IMG_20200315_074831060.jpg

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. What about the round balls that look like eggs on the fins? That is normal for this fish? I don’t see those on your fish. Your fish looks speckled and translucent.

I believe so. No longer have any fry. They are supposed to be camouflage. You only have to worry it's ich if they are a bright white & all over fish. Looks like sprinkled fish w/salt. IMG_20200315_080726419.jpg

Thanks. I will calm down now. My kids wanted this aquarium and I said no but my husband went ahead and purchased it for him. My son is really into aquatic life and my husband wants to foster his interests.

I have grown attached to these little fish and feel responsible to keep them all healthy and alive. I guess that’s why I didn’t want to get them. One more thing for me to do. I am also learning on the fly and realizing that’s not the way to go. So I am grateful for forums like this.
