Oscar Fish Head Injury

Hi everyone, my 55 gallon fish tank is right next to my bed, and I was woken up to a very odd thump sound coming from it. When I turned the lights on to investigate, it looks like the thermometer fell of the side of the tank and hit the Oscar fish in the head. He would not move for several minutes, and and he is swimming a little strange now. I will include a photo of the gash on the Oscars head. Do you think Melafix would work?

Is it more possible your oscar crashed into the side of the side of the tank and knocked the thermometer off? I cant see a thermometer hitting a fish with enough force to cause an injury given water resistance etc. Might the oscar be outgrowing its home?

Melafix isnt going to do anything for the injury, but it might stop secondary infections. Plenty of water changes, clean water and a stressfree environment will aid your fishes recovery.
