Hi there,

Would anyone be able to help identify an issue with a platy in my partners tank. We have several Platy in the tank and have had lots of fry appear in the last few days. Shortly after this happened, we discovered one of the adults laying on its side at the bottom of the tank. There appears to be a red growth/prolapse at the base of the tail.

Anyone able to help identify the issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Likely a prolapsed uterus. Sometimes it shrinks back in and sometimes it doesn't. Some fish have lived with it and most will die. You can research a little more. I have read so many things about it one even mentioned somehow putting it back.

With your fish already looking to be suffering, you might want to consider some reading on euthanasia. It is a sad part of fish keeping.
