I've been watching my leopard pleco for a few weeks and wonder if it's muted colors are due to subordination or if there's something more going on. I've noticed white around its mouth, but not sure if it's part of the mute or cotton mouth. Any suggestions?

Sometimes injuries from squabbles can get infected. Watch him and see if anything changes. Peeling, flaking skin, patches of greyish, whitish. Powder puff tufts similar to dandelion seed heads but tiny. Stuff like that.

Maybe they are needing more territory room?

Looks like a healing injury???

If you are up to it..... remove him from the tank, get him in your hand and swab the area with hydrogen peroxide.
