Hello!

Just today I noticed our large pleco has this red inflammation. Anyone ever seen this and know what is it and how to fix? We’re also currently treating the tank for low ph and ammonia (been working on that for almost two months, so it’s not a new ammonia spike). When the initial ammonia spike happened, he definitely got sick and has had a cloudy eye since. But otherwise has been acting normal since the treatments. All other levels and temp are normal. Thanks in advance!

That red area is the anus of the fish. Not to worry. Once you get your ammonia under control, the fish should be much happier.
If you have any established filtering material from another tank, add some of that to this tank's filter and it should help move along the consumption of the ammonia present. (y)

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH of the water?

What are you doing to treat the pH and ammonia issue?

What sort of filter is on the tank?
How often and how do you clean the filter?

How often do you do water changes and how much do you change?
Do you gravel clean the substrate when you do a water change?
Do you dechlorinate the new water before adding it to the tank?

What do you feed the fish?
Is there driftwood, algae and biofilm (slime on the ornaments and glass) in the tank?
