Possible cory disease?

Hello all,

Yesterday I noticed that one of my corys (a corydoras trillineatus) pectoral fins had white tips. It is a new tank. When I looked today, I saw that the whiteness had increased. He doesn't have any white spots anywhere else so I doubt it could be Ich. Actually, I am thinking that, somehow, his pectoral fins are 'wearing' out.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Sounds like they are getting eaten away by fungus or bacteria.

Answer these Qs to help determine if it is a tank issue (unlikely since only one fish is affected, but better safe than sorry):
~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp)?
~ How large is the tank?
~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are there current sizes?
~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time?
~How long have you had the fish?
~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlor, new substrate, etc.?

Thanks for those links. Going over those sites, I am pretty sure that I am dealing with a case of Fin Rot here.

Fin rot is usually brought on by poor water quality so I'd suggest testing your water for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, doing a water change and treating with some Melafix.

The quality of the water seems to be fine. I check the amonia, nitrate, nitrite values daily, and they are fine. I am thinking that perhaps he had it already in the fish store and that I didn't pick up on it back then or that it was not that apparent. I am using Mardel Maracyn , but I think he is a lost cause.

Fin rot is actually very cureable, and they can regenerate their fins (as long as it's not TOO much) in very little time.

If that's all it is, and you are treating, then it should pull through! Good luck

Try something a little stronger than Maracyn, like Kanamyacin, Seachem makes a brand called Kanaplex which kills almost all bacterial and Fungal infections.

QT the little guy and treat with something stronger--if it is tolerated by cories. I know they are touchy with certain meds, so please read the label on the medicine closely.
