I noticed today that the gills of my 3 female guppies seem to be red, with one being worse than the others. I have been searching today and have seen about ammonia and oxygen and ruled them out. I recently looked on them again and have noticed what looks like a thin silver coating near the gills and cheeks of the fish. Could this is parasites or is it something else?

So ammonia and nitrite are 0? Indeed ammonia is one cause of overly red gills.

Perhaps a picture of what you’re talking about?

Hello Thomas...

If you're in doubt about the health of your fish, perform a little larger water change than usual. You can add a bit of standard aquarium salt too. A standard teaspoon or a bit more in every five gallons of treated tap water will discourage the growth and reproduction of a pathogen or parasite.
