redtail shark going all white

a freind of mine got a redtail shark and when he was doing a water chang the shark went all white.i think it is down to stress but am not sure so if anyone know any think about this please could you let me know what it is.it has gon back to black now so it has got me thinking.

my rainbow sharks do that as well, usually when they go through something they dont like and get a little stressed. But after a day or two they usually go back to the darker color.

A lot of fish lose coloration when they're scared/stressed. My loaches used to lose their brown stripes almost completely when I did water changes. They'd gain them back quite quickly.

It's almost certainly not a serious problem.

...but he might want to check ammonia levels just in case. (Hehe. Just a disclaimer, really!) Ammonia poisoning often leads to fish discoloration. Probably not the case, though.
