Sick platy

Don't know what's wrong. No visible injury. Just started today hovering around in the same spot. Tank 20g housing 7 platy and 7 adf plus 4 baby platy in breeder net. Parameters ammonia 0. Nitrite 0. Nitrate 20 ppm. Every one else happy and healthy. Tank established over a year now. Any ideas

Have you checked your parameters lately? Adf are super dirty and make a ton of mess so while it doesn't seem like you are over stocked you might be closer to it than you think

Check once a week and ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10-20. Ran out of ph test solution so not tested in a bit. I do a 20% pwc weekly too

Can you get a clearer pic of the bottom rear fin, looks awfully round to be a male. What is the age on this fish (best guess) and how long have you had it.

Also have you noticed any harassment? I know platys are generally peaceful but bullying can still occur. Especially in males disputing who has what females or females who are being too frequently targeted to breed.

That second pic of the last 2 you posted- is that an air bubble on his tail or a white spot? It almost looks like it could be ick. But it could also be a bubble too -hard to get good pics.


If it is ick unless you have some salt sensitive fish like corydoras I would up the temp a little bit and add some aquarium salt. I can't remember the correct dosage- it isn't very much but if you search on here you can probably find it easily or someone might know and see this.


If you can't tell if it is ick or a bubble try and get a few more pics of the tail?

I think that's a female in the first pic you can see the fin clear enough to tell its female and I'd say she's preggers lol
