I woke up this morning and found my rainbow shark swimming near the top of the tank with some white spots on his sides. He has been fine the last couple of days. Can someone please tell me if this is ich or velvet or something else? I have been trying to research on my own but every site says something different!

Hi, it's not ich or velvet but fungus or bacterial infection.
Do you have readings for ammonia, etc? How long has the tank been going?
Also it looks like a fine white webbing on the first picture and in patches? And the top fin is ragged? On iPhone so a bit hard to see.
Edit - also curious what you are getting on other sites.

My bala shark had same thing. Guy in pet store recommended furan-2......
