Something hanging out of my rams gill?!?

I Noticed yesterday that one of my ram's gills looked funny. I looked at it closer and it looks like something is hanging out of his gills! He's acting fine but what could of done this?

That's very odd. It almost looks like a gill cover has been partially torn loose. Is there any gill tissue showing ? Any chance of a pic from the side that shows the full gill area ?
