What causes the tail of a fish to split? One of my guppies has two splits in its tail and was just wondering if it was anything to be concerned about?

He could have torn it on something. Do you have any plastic plants in your tank?
It should heal and grow back on its own. You should be concerned if you see white or greyish color around the edges of where it was torn...that means it could be infected, and in turn would need to be treated.

I agree with Lori. My cichlids get split tails more often than I would like to see, but they heal rather rapidly.

cool....sounds good. No plastic plants in the tank. Maybe he just a little too excited with all the pretty ladies I put in with him
