Torn fins on Betta?

Just wondering if my Bettas fins look torn? He also has some red dots on his fin, not sure if thats his color or what.. Thanks!

Something's definitely up with him. Is he a crowntail or vailtail? What size tank? Any tank mates? Is it cycled? Heated? How long have you had him? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings?

I have yet to test the water again, but he is in a cycled, filtered, and heated 5 gallon. I just recently moved him from a 1.5gal to the 5gal. Not sure on his type, I didn't buy him myself. I used to feed him frozen food, then switched to pellets. He has changed color from when I first got him.

The tanks been cycled for awhile, before I put him in. no tank mates.

You really need to know your readings, so either get your water tested at the lfs or pick up the API master kit (about $23 online).

How often do you do water changes?

I do have a liquid api test kit.

I have recently done a water change a few days ago. I don't do them as often as I should.

The smaller the tank, the more diligent you have to be with water changes.
