I am relatively new to aquarium keeping. I just started a few months ago and now have 3 tanks up and running.

I have a betta who was in really bad water conditions when I got him 2 weeks ago. He ended up getting ich. He lives in a 4.5 gal tank and treatment was going great , he even started making a huge bubble nest. I added a new plant thinking this would make him happy, wich it did. Then I decided he didn't have enough substrate for the plant. Unthinkingly I added another 2 inches of substrate but forgot to rinse it off at the same temp. as the rest of his water. Needless to say that "cold water" shock did not make him a happy camper although he's still here thank goodness. Be warned temp. IS important to maintain in everything. He still hasn't made a new bubble nest and keeps giving me these reproachful looks. :(

how did rinsing the subtrate with water affect this?
did u just pour it in the water, subtrate and rinse water?
we just used a fish net and scooped out the subtrate.
