What am I dealing with? HELP! Algae or mold?
New to forum. I just lost a glofish danio overnight. I just found some white fuzzy stuff on an Ill planted Java fern that I did not establish correctly, and it’s on the rest of the tanks interior decor. I’m at my wits end here. Grinch (green danio) RIP
I don’t know if the white stuff is algae or mold. It’s not on the fish. They have been eating fine but two danios started looking upside down U shaped in the last two days. Lost weight, hung around the top of the tank but didn’t look like gasping for air. Someone suggested parasites (all fish from big box retail). One danio stuck sideways in the intake part of the Top Fin HOB filter overnight; he didn’t make it. Rest of the pack appear healthy, tetras seem totally fine. But rest of glofish danios are hanging on side side of tank, top of water. I noticed the white fuzz on the Ill planted Java, which is in front of the filter. I thought maybe the fish were avoiding but i found it on the side they’re hanging out in.
I’ve lowered temp from 80 to 78. I have the filter on high on opposite side and volcano w air stone running constant.
I don’t want to lose anymore fish. It’s depressing and I’ve become attached. I also cannot stop fussing with the tank. It feels like daily I’m finding issues.
I’m prepared to medicate this tank, and clean the ever loving whatever out of it. I do not have a separate hospital tank so fish will be in tank during cleaning.
What type of fish is afflicted? Glofish Danios, Glofish tetras (they’re in the tank but look fine atm).
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)?
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 20
Ph 7.6
78f
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up?
10 gallon bought as a Christmas gift. Fish cycled unfortunately, about 10 weeks in. Went off retail associate education- my fault.
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number (i.e. Fluval 304) and amount of gph if known.
Some HOB top fin whisper.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes?
7. 3 glofish tetras, about 1.5” each. 4 glofish danios, all under 1 inch
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel?
Three days ago.
How often do you do this? It’s been multiple times a week since tank was not cycled.
How much water do you remove at a time? 20-30% each time.
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them? 10 weeks
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.?
Aquarium salt 1/2 ratio (1tbsp per 2 gallons) done yesterday. All water changes accompanied with Prime.
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently? Flakes and no no changes.
