What causes a fish to die with hard body?

An albino Cory died this week. The weird thing is that when I removed him his body was rock hard. I've never seen that before.

Any idea what illness or disease causes that?

They are in a 10g with black sand. Water Params are all good.

All bodies stiffen up when they die, it's been there a while is all

Actually it had been there less than a day. I've removed many a dead fish before and not seen anything like this - it was rock hard like it was made of plastic or something?

Just wondered if it was a sign of a particular disease or something.....

No, Cory cats are a member of the "Armored" Catfish group so they are stiff even when alive. So what killed it had nothing to do with the stiffness.
