Hey everyone,

Sure this has been posted a million times but there’s a gash on my fish - maybe from when I moved?

- five gallon planted tank w/filter and heater
- 1 crowntail, 2 lil catfish, 2 shrimp, and a snail

It sounds crowded but they’ve all gotten on great since day one.

The betta (Humphrey) doesn’t seem odd or slow at all, he just has this gash on his side that’s growing. I’m guessing he rubbed up against the log during a recent move.

The gash is growing a bit because (I think) the cut is right where his body folds when he turns around. Anyways, I’ve attached some pictures. Should I use betta fix? Anything else? Will up the water changes of course.

Thanks!

Hello, do you have a quarantine tank. I ask because I was going to suggest using water changes & aquarium salt. But your bettas tankmates are salt sensitive. If you do you can use 1-3 teaspoons of salt per gallon dissolved in tank water. Be sure to add 1/4 salt solution every 20-30 min so fish can get use to it. Salt will help produce slime coat which promotes healing & keeps fungus from setting in. Do a 30-50% water change every 2 days replacing any salt taken out cause fresh water does wonders. Should improve within a few days if not stronger meds may be needed. Hope this helps you!!!!!
