Can anyone ID this for me?..... The leafs are twice as long as they are wide and have a brownish green color to them. They grow close to the rock and are pretty coarse feeling.

I don't know what it is, but it is fairly common on rock from the S Pacific. I have not seen it last more than a few months, perhaps others have had better luck with it. It is a magcro alge and is not harmfull to the tank.

I'm gonna guess some type of sargassum altho not Sargassum hystrix which is more stemmy. They type mentioned is said to proliferate in new tanks and die off due to lack of sufficient nutrients to sustain it. At any rate it would be a good idea to keep it pruned.
