An encrusting Montipora?

Found this on a chunk of LR rubble I got from my LFS about a year back. I barely noticed it when I first put the rock in the tank. It was a tiny patch about 3/4" in diameter. This pic shows the whole patch has nearly doubled in size and is about 1-1/2 to 2 inches across. Slow growth I know, but I only have PC lights on the tank. This rock is about 6-8 inches from the surface of the water. (trying to get it as much light as possible)

Do I have the identification right? Anyone have a more accurate name for me?

Thanks!!

Might want to check the possibilities of a Hedgehog coral (Echinopora sp.). The formations around the edges look similar.

Cheers
Steve

I agree with you on the montipora sp. I would assume it once had a frag or colony there. This of course depends on if the rock was ever in another tank. Possibly Digi or montipora stellata ( I am guessing this by the thin branches) The only reasons I wouldn't think Hedgehog is the polyp size looks a bit small and if the rock was indeed harvested and not previously in a tank, i thought hedgehog was native to somewhere in the far east....? *shrugs*

I would love to see it grow under halides

Thanks or the suggestions, I'll google me some images and see if things match up.

The "thin branches" are actually worm tubes that the coral has encrusted over. Pretty intriguing actually. I purchased the rock from a LFS, and I believe all their LR is ocean harvested. They have a public curing tank that has some pretty interesting stuff in it from time to time. In the pic above the polyps aren't extended at all. Fully extended though, they're still only about 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch at the longest. (just looked at a ruler to be sure i wasn't over or under estimating ) but this could be due to poor lighting. (4x65 PC)
