another id question

here is another item growing on live rock, this on is not smooth, almost hairy, I have quite a few of these, even one growing on a snail shell. it is white.

can these grow out of control all over the tank??

Not all over the tank but they do seem to like shaded high flow areas like filter systems and skimmers. I've never had them get out of hand but some people do take the time to scrap them during regular equipment maintenance.

sweet.. I was just about to ask about this... I saw around 4 on side of my rock growing...

What's the thing on the very bottom of the picture? Is that another type of sponge? It's exactly what I have growing on the underside of my live rock that I was curious about in another thread.

It is exactly the same thing, but on the further side of the rock. That one is the biggest one in the tank, twice the size as the one I took the photo of.
