Found this in my cannister filter during routine maintenance...good guy or bad guy? If bad, how can I exterminate/prevent others?

Brownish in color, length about half the size of a pinky nail, "tail" curled into it's body...sorry I couldn't get a clearer picture.

Looks like pods , or a mysis shrimp either way not harmful , free food for fish , and free ditrus eater .

Agree w/ Ziggy. It's an amphipod. Very good cleaners/detrivores, a possible food source for fish/coral, and a sign of good overall tank health (y)

I agree, a great indication of a healthy tank!

I tend to find them in any sponge I have in my tank, the micro buble difuser sponge for my protein skimmer and my overflow's sponge, all of the places where they can take refuge from others.

They will find their way into just about anyplace that water flows....Great little critter to have in the tank though and a sign of a healthy system!
