I'm not sure if that's a goniopora or a favia. If it opens up take a picture of it. Goniopora are pretty hard to keep but I've had some successes with them. My longest living was a red branching Goni which lived about 3 years. They need acropora quality water(super pristine) , moderate/low light and moderate flow. Also they MUST be spot fed something like oyster eggs or brine shrimp napulii. Keep it off the sandbed and keep it free of detritus and you should be ok if you keep pretty good water parameters. Chances are it will last about a year if it reopens, that's the average.
 
Looks exactly like the flowerpot I had as it was declining. Once the the tissue starts to die off its too late, which you can see in the picture. I would return it if you can. If not, you'll have a cool looking live rock at least. I just reused the skeleton of mine today for a symphodium frag.
