Trying to figure out what this is. When it's closed up its a hard coral with a lot of ridges. When it opens its green with red tentacles

I can't get a good picture. But it's closed up. It looks like a branch that broke off. Where the break is you can see the soft parts. Looks kinda bubbly

Where did you get it? Ask that guy what it was. Is it glued down? Pick it up and bring it close to the glass, then take the pic.
 
That's called hydnophora. You have the encrusting type. Hydnophora exesa if I'm not mistaken.

Your lighting probably isn't good enough. I've been in the salt side of the hobby for a decade, give or take.
 
Will it keep doing what it's been doing for 2 months. It's been in my tank for around 6 weeks and seems to be doing ok. It opens up and normally stays open as long as the lights are on.
