I got some baby hermit crabs from the LFS for free to help clean up the bottom of my tank. They only thing i can find from an online source is a scarlet has a yellow face/head are there any other ways to tell the species apart? They are ok for now either way as my tank has no corals or inverts (well 2 turbo snails that are way to big for the hermits for now). I can try to get a pic but they are soo small, think a large MTS shell or as long as a penny.

The Dwarf Red Tip Hermit Crab has a red face and legs. Both claws are of equal size.

The Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab has red legs and a yellow face.

Its hard to tell right now, my eyesight is horrible and they are so small. When my GF gets back i'll borrow her camera and take a snap shot on macro to see if that will help. I have yet to actually really see their faces their legs are a somewhat banded red (light/dark/light etc coloring)
