flourescent lime green algae AND brown algae

I cant show a pic because my old pc doesn't allow me to hook up my camera. BUT..I have this lime green algae that only grew on the silicone parts of my tank. It scraped off but now the silicone is stained lime, glow in the dark green.

I thought this happened because of lighting.

THEN, my roomie took care of my tank and kept the light on too much, 60 watt coralife 50/50 and some of my tank may have accidently gotten full sun. Brown algae grew all over everything AND stained my shells etc.

I scrubbed off both algaes, tested everything. Tank is cycling and everything is good..nitrite/nitrate is dark purple when tested. Not ready for fish yet...

No LFS knows about the green algae, what caused it and why it is only on my seams.

Please wb if you know anything. Thanks!

Did you buy the tank brand new? Some medications will stain the silicone. Bright lime green sounds like the beginning of corraline, but I am not too sure about that, if it is only on the silicone. Is that tank for SW? I'm just throwing out some questions, trying to figure something out.....

Brand new, custom made, by a major tank manufacturer. No medications were used. I scrapped off the algae. Had some brown spots too.?????

How long has the tank been set up? What is your clean up crew like? I'd be careful scraping around the seams. Algae is normal and IMO a sparkling clean tank is just not reasonable in the sw hobby. It may be film algae gathering or it may even be green coralline. If it's nuisance algae caused by the open window, I'd close the window and let it burn itself out. Or if you have no corals or anything in the tank that is dependant on light, black out the tank for a week and see if that helps.
