Curious if this guy is beneficial or harmful.
it is all white with a faintly gray central line, it's gut I presume and is essentially flat with no obvious appendages.
It is about an inch long.

some pet stores loan out these velvet nudibranch , they eat flat worms when I had my 40g reef set up I found a few of those flat worms this guy made short work of them ,

Flatworm of some kind. Probably not harmful...but removing him would reduce chance of more of them.

I snagged him out of there as soon as I saw him.
the wife said "find out what it is and if you should take it out."
I corrected her and said, "No, I take it out first and then worry about whether it's good or bad."...LOL

will keep an eye out for more. that is the first one I've seen.

compare it to this guy this is a white nudibranch it looks like the first pict you had posted when it was in your tank , I just happen to stumble across this guy in my travels , it says there safe and eat flat worms like it's brother the velvet nudibranch

they will die off if theres no food source which is flat worms

nope, didn't look like that. it was all white except for the gut line looked a little gray and it had no marking or appendages anywhere on it's body.
