Help, please

I turned some rocks over this evening & found a couple of things I've never seen before. The first one looks like the legs of a hermit crab but are coming out of what I think is a layer of sponge on a piece of live rock. This is the best picture I could get (and I took @ 50). I even shook it around in the water to see if it would come off. Obviously, it didn't. The next picture is of something hanging on the end of my live rock. This part was sitting on several other pieces of rock- not in the sand. It looks a bit like sand, I thought. Maybe some kind of eggs? I do have snails. Thanks for your help. I always get such great answers from you guys
